A new benchmarking service from out of hours to a broader urgent care benchmark

The last five years have seen wide-ranging changes to the NHS and urgent care, with the transfer of commissioning from PCTs to CCGs and the introduction of NHS 111, as well as the Keogh review of urgent and emergency care.

We have always understood that the benchmark we established would need to adapt to these changes. There is a strong case for extending the benchmark, where possible, so it covers more of the urgent care pathway while retaining its ability to make accurate comparisons between services.

Now that these changes have been implemented, we think the time is right to introduce a new generation of the benchmark, covering a core of urgent care services including out of hours services and NHS 111 and, where possible, building in available results from general practice through to A&E. About Us

The Primary Care Foundation supports the development of best practice in primary and urgent care. We apply our work shaping national policy to support local change. We use information to create understanding, driving improvements in care, reducing unnecessary variation across organisations and between clinicians and developing practical tools for front-line staff in general practice and urgent care.
